Nick:今天我們要講的是，一個非常常用的詞組，叫做"搞定啦"。比如說我們去銀行辦事，或者去其他辦事機構辦事，或者去買東西。你跑過去，你最後搞定所有的事情，可能這個辦事人員會跟你說，已經全部搞定啦。這種時候他們就可能會說，"you are all set". 舉個例子，比如說你在美國，去開一個銀行戶口，open a bank account.然後你跑過去填資料，做身份證明啊各種。最後你搞定啦，他（職員）不會說，"hey you are done."就是挺起來非常的---這個說法沒有什麼問題，但是聽起來不太禮貌。如果翻譯成中文的話-把這些東西都弄好，說"hey you are done"，聽着就很像，弄好了，你可以滾了。大概是這樣，不太禮貌。當然了我翻譯的有點過，但是就不太禮貌。所以他們一般會使用這個短語，"you are all set", you-are-all-set,連讀，you're.說明你搞定啦。So when you open a bank account, you have to fill out a lot of forms, right?
Brad:Of course, there's a few of papers you need to fill out. We have personal information.
Nick:Yeah and you have to provide a lot of private information and stuff. And then when you get done with all of these, the staff might say," hey you are all set. You are good." So that means you are good to go, right?
Brad:Yeah for the most of part when the speaker asks, "ok, we are all set", it's almost a question even though it's a form of a statement, before you say goodbye. So it doesn't sound like "ok, you are done now, get out." So it's like there's a lot…
Nick:More polite.
Brad:Yeah more polite, at least there's room for questions. So instead of saying "ok, bye now"
Nick:So you don't even have a chance to ask something else.
Brad:Yeah, an example that I though was if you are at a restaurant. Everyone's finished. Everyone paid the bill. Before saying, "ok, let's get up and leave", say, "is everyone set?" In case someone needs to use one needs to, I don't could be something like someone are supposed to sit down because their stomach is full of food. So we'll be likely to ask, "Is everyone set?" Anyway, and you'll say, "ok, let's go."
Nick:Thank you. Brad 剛剛就是說，you are all set可以給人家一個提問的一個空間。比如說，你還有什麼問題你沒有解決的，剛剛還是這個銀行的例子。如果他跟你說, "you are all set" 或者問你"are you all set?" 那你可以說，如果搞定的話，你可以說," yes"，我搞定啦。如果沒有搞定的話，或者還有什麼問題要問，比如你可以說, "Can I change my phone number later?" 我可以換一下手機號嗎，在銀行戶口上。他可能說, "sure." 就是給你一個提問你的空間。包括你去吃飯，去restaurant, 大家都吃得很飽。可能有些人要先上廁所才走，有些人準備走啦，就會問你們有沒有搞定啊，"are you all set?" Someone might say, "are you all set." In restaurant, right? To ask if they can go. 那大家就會說，能不能走啦，相當於搞不搞定啦？如果搞定的話， 大家就會說yes。如果沒有搞定的話，可能說，比如我去上個廁所, "I need to go to the bathroom." 這個是一個很委婉的，很有禮貌的問法。如果直接說，we are done. Just go.會讓人沒有任何回答的空間，聽起來沒喲這麼有禮貌。So this is today's lesson. I'll see you guys next time.
