　　這部冒險片經典作的故事背景是二十年代的墨西哥。漢弗萊．博加特和蒂姆．霍爾特這兩名美國流浪漢辛苦工作卻被騙工資，偶然從老人沃爾特．休斯頓口中聽到馬德嶺羣山中有金礦，乃夥同一起前往淘金。
　　經歷千山萬水，他們終於找到金沙，但猖獗的土匪也聞風而至，三人爲了佔有這些金沙而彼此玩弄計謀，但結果誰也沒撈到好處。“人性的貪婪”是全片的刻畫重點，看着男子漢大丈夫因爲逐利而變成卑鄙小人，實在令人感嘆。
