北京消息：週五晚間，故宮在官方微博上發表聲明，就因疏忽而讓一名女子開車進入故宮一事進行道歉。

Palace Museum和Forbidden City都指故宮。
1月17日下午，網友@露小寶LL 曬出了一組照片，照片顯示，兩名女子開着一輛黑色奔馳大G越野車（off-road vehicle）堂而皇之地停在了故宮太和門（the Gate of Supreme Harmony）前的廣場上。由於當天是閉館日（closure day），因此這起事件引發了網友的憤怒。
一些網友要求對此事件進行進一步調查（demanded further investigations into the incident），並詳細解釋如何允許人們開車進入故宮博物院，而其他人則對未能保護世界文化遺產（protect the site of the world cultural heritage）這一點感到失望（disappointment）。
早在2013年，故宮博物院前院長（curator）單霽翔提議“今後來故宮博物院參觀的來賓車隊和相關機動車輛，不再穿行故宮博物院開放區域。”對於禁車（car-driving ban）原因，單霽翔曾表示，英國白金漢宮（Buckingham Palace）、法國凡爾賽宮（Versailles Palace）均不允許車輛穿行（car driving was forbidden），“這是一個文化尊嚴（cultural dignity）的問題。”
時任法國總統奧朗德於2013年4月26日攜女友參觀故宮時，單霽翔關閉午門（Meridian Gate），不讓總統車隊（motorcade）進入。最終，讓法國總統在故宮午門前下車步行進入（get off his car and got inside on foot）。
2020年是故宮建成600年（the 600th anniversary of the Forbidden City）、故宮博物院成立95週年（the 95th anniversary of the establishment of the Palace Museum）。
