Xi Shi was a famous beauty of the State of Yue during the Spring and Autumn Period.
西施是春秋時期越國有名的美女。Among Xi Shi's neighbours there was a very ugly woman whom everyone disliked and called "Dong Shi".
西施的鄰居中有一個長得很醜的女人，大家都討厭她，叫她“東施”。Dong Shi was very jealous of Xi Shi's beauty, but there was nothing she could do about it.
東施看到西施很美，非常嫉妒，可是，又沒有辦法。
She could only imitate Xi Shi in every way.
她只好模仿西施，時時處處學西施的樣子。One day, Xi Shi felt pain in her heart, and called a doctor for treatment.
有一天，西施患了心痛病，請醫生來醫治。Having taken the medicine, Xi Shi went out of her house for a stroll.
西施服藥以後，走出屋子，在外邊散步。After taking a few steps, she felt a spasm of pain in her heart.
剛走了幾步，她就覺得一陣心痛。Quickly pressing her bosom, she sat down with knitted brows in a chair in the garden.
西施連忙按着胸口，皺着眉頭，扶坐在花園的椅子上。Dong Shi saw Xi Shi after long expectation, but she didn't know Xi Shi was ill.
東施好不容易盼到了西施，但是不知道西施生病。She only felt that Xi Shi looked exceptionally beautiful that day.'
只覺得今天的西施顯得格外嬌美。Therefore, she imitated Xi Shi by pressing her bosom and deliberately knitting her brows to attract people's attention.
於是，她學着西施的模樣，故意按着胸口，緊鎖雙眉，想引起人們對她的注意。Seeing her ugly and grotesque appearance, all the passers-by gave her a wide berth.
可是，來來往往的行人見到她這副醜相怪樣子，都遠遠地避開了。
