　　provide，offer和supply用法比較：

(1)provide指有遠見，爲應付意外、緊急情況等作好充分準備而“供給、提供”。

常用結構：provide sb. with sth. 或provide sth. for sb. 如：

The school provided food for the students. 學校爲學生提供伙食。

They provided us with all the books we need. 他們爲我們提供所需要的所有書籍。

(2)offer側重表示“願意給予”。

常用結構：offer sb. sth. 或offer to do sth. 後不能接賓語從句。 如：

She offered me a cup of tea. 她給我端了杯茶。

He offered to go instead of me. 他主動提出代替我去。

補充：provide for sb 意爲“養活某人;提供生活費給某人”，如：

The young couple should provide for their old parents every month. 那對青年夫婦應當每月給他們年邁的父母提供生活費。

(3)supply通常指定期“供應”，強調替代或補充所需物品。

常用結構：supply sb. with sth. 或supply sth. to sb. 如：

The cars will be supplied to people all over the country. 這些汽車將供應給全國各地的人們。

Cows supply us with milk. 母牛供給我們牛奶。

　　Provide的用法：

一、provide作/"提供;供給/"講時，常用於以下結構：

1. 用於provide sth. for sb.結構，即/"向某人提供某物/"，也可用provide sth. 結構。這兩者意思相同，可互換，但介詞不可混淆。

They provided some necessary support for the sufferers.

他們爲受難者提供了一些必要的援助。

2. 接名詞作賓語。

It is said that the management will provide food and drink.

據說管理部門將供應飲食。

二、provide作/"規定/"講時，其後通常接從句作賓語。

The local law provides that valuable ancient buildings must be protected by the government.

當地法律規定，政府必須保護那些有價值的古建築。

三、provide常用的習語結構：

1. provide against... 爲......作好準備;預防......。

We should try our best to provide against the return of bird flu.

我們應該盡最大努力來預防禽流感的再次發生。

2. provide for 提供生活費，養活。

He provided for his family by selling newspapers.

他靠賣報來養活他的家人。

四、provide的過去分詞形式provided和V-ing形式providing均可作連詞，用來引導條件從句，意爲/"如果......的話;只要....../"。可直接接從句，也可加上that，二者可互換，但在正式文體中多用provided。

I will agree to go providing (that) my expenses are paid.

只要爲我負擔費用，我就同意去。
