“the+形容詞”表單數還是表複數

“the+形容詞”結構若用於表示性質或特徵相同的一類人，則通常具有複數意義。
如：The rich are not always happier than the poor. 富人不一定總比窮人幸福。類例：the deaf 聾人 / the dead 死者 / the blind 盲人 / the young 年輕人 / the weak 弱者 / the old 老人 / the strong 強者 / the sick 病人 / the wounded 傷員 / the killed 被殺者 / the injured 受傷者 / the living 活着的人 / the unemployed 失業者 / the oppressed 被壓迫者 / the oppressing 壓迫者。2.“the+形容詞”結構若用於表示抽象概念，則表示單數意義。如：The true always triumphs. 真理永遠獲勝。類例：the good 善良 / the right 正義 / the true 真實 / the bad 壞事 / the humorous 幽默感。注：有時可能根據其含義的不同，用法也會有所變化。如the good 既可表示抽象意義(=what is good)，具有單數意義；也可表示人的類別(=those who are good)，具有複數意義。又如以下兩例——第1句中的the old表示一類人，具有複數意義；第2句中的the old表示抽象概念，具有單數意義：(from )The old are respected in our country. 在我國老年人受到尊重。
