3. “while”引導讓步狀語從句
“while”用在句首，一般意爲“儘管”，引導讓步狀語從句。
例句：
While he was tired, he went on working.
雖然他累了，但他還是繼續工作。
While I understand what you say, I can’t agree with you.
雖然我理解你的意思，但我還是不同意。

【真題解析】本句考查的是由while引導的讓步狀語從句。相當於though或although，“work on doing sth.”意爲“致力於做某事”，where引導的從句做figuring out的賓語。

【真題解析】本句是複合句。句子主幹爲“several studies suggest…”。“while”引導讓步狀語從句，意爲“儘管，雖然”，比 although 或 though 語氣輕。第一個 that 引導同位語從句；第二個 that 引導賓語從句，作 suggest 的賓語。in which 引導定語從句，修飾 situations。

【參考譯文】毫無疑問持續的壓力是有害的, 但幾項研究證明能夠應付的具有挑戰性的環境對人體是有益的。
4. “No matter wh-”引導讓步狀語從句
在英語中，我們可以用no+matter+what, who, when, where, how或者whatever, whoever, whenever, wherever, however 來引導讓步狀語從句，表示“無論”。請注意，這幾個連詞除了however之外，一般都可以單獨使用，而however後面通常要接形容詞或副詞，不單獨使用。
例句：
No matter who you are, you have to obey the orders and there is no exception.
無論你是誰，你都必須服從命令，沒有特例。
No matter how hard this work is, I will not give up until succeed.
無論有多難，我都不會放棄直到成功。
No matter which university you go to, you have to study hard as each university is unique.
無論你去上哪所大學，你都必須努力學習，因爲每所大學都是獨特的。
He wanted to take no risks, however small.
他多小的風險也不想冒。

主句爲“Doctor Godwin says…”，“that…on smoking”爲同位語從句。同位語從句中嵌套了一個讓步狀語從句。根據句意，“無論存在何種強烈反對吸菸的論點”可知，應用“no matter what”引導的讓步狀語從，however引導讓步狀語從句時，後接形容詞或副詞，不接句子。
譯文：戈德溫醫生說，無論存在哪種強烈反對吸菸的論點，很多人仍然堅持吸菸。
