   I crossed the street to avoid meeting him, but he saw me and camerunning towards me. It was no use pretending that I had not seen  him, so I waved to him. I never enjoy meeting Nigel Dykes. He never has anything to do. No matter how busy you are, he always insists on coming with you. I had to think of a way of preventing him from following me around all morning.
‘Hello, Nigel,'I said.‘Fancy meeting you here!'
‘Hi, Elizabeth,'Nigel answered.‘I was just wondering how to spend the morning-until I saw you. You're not busy doing anything, are you?'
‘No, not at all,'I answered.‘I'm going to...'
‘Would you mind my coming with you?'he asked, before I had finished speaking.
‘Not at all,'I lied,‘but I'm going to the dentist.'
‘Then I'll come with you,' he answered.‘There's always plenty to read in the waiting room!'.

我穿過馬路以便避開他，但他看到我並朝我跑過來。若再裝作沒看見他已是沒有用了，我只好向他招手。 我就怕遇到奈傑爾·戴克斯。他從來都是無事可做，不管你多忙，他總是堅持要跟你去。我得想辦法不讓他整個上午纏着我。
"你好，奈傑爾，想不到在這兒見到你。"我說。
"你好，伊麗莎白，"奈傑爾回答說，"我正不知道怎麼消磨這一上午呢，正好見到你。你不忙，是嗎？"
"不，不忙，我打算去......"我回答。
"我跟你一道去行嗎？"沒等我說完話他就問道。
"沒關係，但我準備去牙醫那裏。"我說了個謊。
"那我也跟你去，候診室裏總有很多東西可供閱讀！"他回答。

第三部分 LANGUAGE POINTS

1、I crossed the street to avoid meeting him.
avoid doing:避開做...

2、It was no use pretending that I had not seenhim...
It is no use doing that...:固定結構（其中的 of可省略），表示"做......也是徒勞的／無益的
it是先行主語，真正的主語是 pretending 引導的動名詞短語
Ex
It's no use being much more accurate than that.
It is no use arguing with you.

3．No matter how busy you are, he always insists on coming with you.
no matter （how/when/where/who/what）:引導讓步從句，無論....
insist on doing:堅持做...

4、I had to think of a way of preventing him from following me around all morning..
preventing sb. from doing sth.:阻止某人做某事

5、Fancy meeting you here!
用於熟悉的朋友在意外見面的時候打招呼

6、You're not busy doing anything, are you? 
反意疑問句，由陳述句後面加簡略疑問句構成。陳述句如果是肯定的，則附加疑問句通常用否定形式；陳述句如果是否定的，則附加的疑問句用肯定形式。陳述句中有助動詞時，附加疑問句重複其中的助動詞；如果沒有，則用do的各種形式構成
Ex
He's British, isn't he?
He doesn't speak good English, does he?

第四部分 KEY STRUCTURES AND USAGE

 V.+V-ing

=>I crossed the street to avoid meeting him.
=>I never enjoy meeting Nigel Dykes.
=>Fancy meeting you here！
=>‘Would you mind my coming with you?'he asked, before I had finished speaking.

動詞後面只跟名詞性的賓語，即只跟名詞或動名詞：avoid,enjoy,fancy,mind, finish，etc.

其他的例子：
=>He admitted making the mistake.
=>She dreads  getting old.
=>She loathes being asked to parties.
=>I don't anticipate meeting any opposition.
=>Mother suggests having a barbecue party this weekend.
