The worst mistake you can make is to fail to find out what drives them, money, status or whatever. Once you've worked that out, you'll be able to ensure you communicate what's in it for them personally. This should essentially govern the way you respond to people, enabling you to stay in control of the situation and achieve the desired outcome. 14 I've learnt some valuable management lessons over the years, not least in how to avoid the failure of a project. No matter what your position is, you always have to be prepared for opposition. And it's important to anticipate this by getting as many colleagues as possible on your side, so that if, in discussions, someone objects to your plans, you, and a number of others, are able to give an immediate response in order to silence your opponent. 15 When I first started running my own business I made some dreadful mistakes in the way I handled staff. 8選5的最大難點: 設有3個純粹的干擾選項(這是三個選項裡的一些單詞一般會在多段錄音裡多次重現)

解題關鍵：瞭解干擾項設計原則，快速排出干擾項，縮小選擇範圍

BEC考綱：

譯文：不能僅憑題目選項中單詞在聽力原文中出現來判斷答案，這種原詞的重現往往是起到干擾作用。

分析：可排除(錯誤)選項的特點---原詞重現(word match)

例題：

注：近幾年本題型的選項一般為長片語或句子，短的片語都極少出現，整體難度有所提升。

題目介紹：

Step1 提前掃讀一遍選項，快速反應出選項中文意義，如果選項是句子則快速劃出關鍵詞：

A. 成為第一個陳述觀點的人

B. 不要馬上回應他人

C. 讓別人瞭解你的計劃

D. 準備面對最壞的結果

E. 明白每個人的動機

F. 做事方式儘可能靈活

G. 做事不要表現得易怒

Step2 帶著選項大意和關鍵詞聽第一段錄音

注：BEC聽力每段錄音都放兩邊，第一遍主要是抓錄音大意，排除明顯的干擾項。根據此原則一般能至少排除2~3個選項，加上已經選擇的選項不予考慮，越往後，可排除的選項當然越多。

Step4 從5個選項中選出正確答案，如果無法直接判斷出正確答案，先記下可能的答案選項，在做完後面的題目後再用排除法來判斷。

第二遍關鍵要聽出錄音的：Topic話題、Context語境、Function功能(如下考綱截圖)

此題顯然考察的是”話題”. 每段錄音對應一個strategy ，也就是管理策略(題目說明：speaker’s strategy is for success in management.)。聽懂第一段音訊的關鍵就是把握下面的單詞和片語的同義對應:

同義轉換：drive sb = motivate sb = motivation = what‘s in it for sb 激勵、原動力、動機
