Now, back to the news! An early morning fire damaged the historic Geller House today. It destroyed the third floor of the building, but firefighters saved the first and second floors. There were only a few elderly people living in the building. And they were carried out to safety, so no one was hurt. The Geller House was built in 1718 and was used as a hotel for over 150 years. George Washington stayed here in 1782. The Geller family owned the building until the 1930s. Then they sold it to the Mills family. Five years ago, it was made into a building for the old. All the electric wires in the building were checked and most of them were changed then. Several fire departments were called to the scene. When we asked Fire Chief Andrew Barnes how the fire started, he answered that a burning cigarette most likely caused it.
