alone的用法：
alone，lone，lonely和lonesome的比較：alone是表語形容詞，因此能說The man is alone，不能說an alone man。也不能說very alone，只能說much alone或very much alone，且後者比前者普遍。lone是定語形容詞，因此能說a lone man,不能說The man is lone。alone指“獨自的”，lonely指“寂寞的”，一個人也許alone但並不lonely(雖自己一人，但不寂寞)，或是雖不alone而感覺lonely(雖不是自己一個人，卻還是寂寞)。有時lonely還指“不大有人到的”，如a lonely house。lonesome同lonely意思相近，指“孤單的”。

She alone went指“只有她去”，She went alone指“她獨自去”。而leave him alone有時指“聽任他獨自一個人”，有時指“不干涉他”，let him alone指“不干涉他”;
let alone等於to say nothing of，指“更不用說，莫說”。
