日本強震及海嘯引發了人們對於應急避難的關注。日前，上海決定在五年內修建若干座應急避難所，在災難來臨時及時保護人們的生命安全。

More than two weeks after an earthquake and a tsunami struck Japan, the Shanghai government said it plans to better deal with disasters by building emergency shelters in 30 parks within five years.

日本大地震及海嘯發生已有兩週多了。上海政府日前表示，計劃於五年內在30個公園修建若干座應急避難所。

文中的emergency shelter就是指“應急避難所”，主要是在災情來臨時，供人們逃生和暫時避難的場所，提供temporary lodging spaces（臨時居住地），也稱爲disaster shelter。Shelter就是指“庇護處，避難處”，比如bus shelter（公共汽車候車亭）；bomb shelter（防空壕、避難室），也可以有抽象的含義，比如tax shelter（避稅）。

此次上海的emergency shelter裏面，還將安裝video-surveillance devices（視頻監控設備）和digital screen displays（數字播放系統），用來播放最新避難信息。此外，避難所還將設立垃圾循環利用體系，並使用solar energy（太陽能）來供電。目前，上海首個experimental emergency shelter（實驗性應急避難所）正在修建當中。
