Perch原指“長杆”，後引申爲“棲木”，現在是“棲息”的意思。
The bird took its perch on a tree branch. 鳥兒棲息在樹枝上。
The bird flew down from its perch in the cage. 這隻鳥從棲息的鳥籠裏飛下。
鳥棲息的地方通常在高處，這是perch作爲名詞的第二個意思：高處，高位。
The boy sat on the perch and sang loudly. 那個男孩坐在高處大聲唱歌。
He has a perch in his father's bank for as long as he wants it. 他在他父親的銀行裏佔有一高位，想佔多久就多久。
Perch作爲名詞還有一個很少見的意思大家可以稍微瞭解：鱸魚。
I like fishing for perch on vacation. 我喜歡在假期中釣鱸魚。
Perch作爲動詞表示“棲息；就位；位於”，常與介詞on連用。
The bird perched on the electric wires. 鳥棲息在電線上。
The small village perched on a hill. 這個小村莊位於山上。
We perched on a couple of high stools at the bar. 我們坐在酒吧的幾個高腳凳上。

invite in：請某人進入 窗檻，窗臺：windowsill
Sill本身就有“窗臺，基石，門檻”的意思，相當於cill。這兩個單詞是一組親緣詞彙，c和s 相互轉換，是因爲字母c 很多時候也發/s/的音，windowsill 就專指“窗臺”了。
I'm trying to put the flowerpot on the windowsill.
我想把這個花盆放到窗臺上。
pot 壺，盆，罐 flowerpot 花盆
Holding on to the windowsill, the children watched the parade.
孩子們扒着窗臺看遊行隊伍。
hold on to 有“緊握”的意思 趴着窗臺：hold on to the windowsill
