substitute表示以...代替。注意上句中substitute後的pencils不是被替換的，而是用來替換pens的。如果要明確表明用...替換...可加介詞for。 substitute A for B就是用A來替換B。

We substituted pencils for pens.
我們用鉛筆來代替鋼筆。
We substituted honey for sugar.
我們用蜂蜜來代替糖。
