荷蘭冷知識：爲啥把Netherlands翻譯成荷蘭？

很多人可能都覺得奇怪，Netherlands 跟“荷蘭”在發音上一點都不像啊，爲什麼會翻譯成這個？

其實我們翻譯的不是 Netherlands 這個詞，而是 Holland 這個詞，這個詞在世界上被廣泛誤用。

荷蘭的正式名字是 Netherlands，以前有地方翻譯成“日德蘭”或者“尼德蘭”；而 Holland 則是歷史上荷蘭經濟最強大的地區，所以名氣大。

Using “Holland” to talk about the Netherlands is wrong. Holland comprises the Dutch provinces of North and South Holland. It used to be the economically strongest region of the country, which is why it’s so known.

用 Holland 這個詞來指代荷蘭其實是錯的。Holland 指的是荷蘭的北荷蘭省跟南荷蘭省。這個地方曾經是全國經濟最強盛的地區，所以這個名字的知名度才這麼高。

另外，荷蘭的形容詞是 Dutch，跟另外兩個詞都不沾邊，也是夠神奇的。
