全球商界應推動普惠性全球化

When I was first approached to become chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce, I envisaged my tenure as the head of the world’s largest business organisation unfolding in a very different political context to the one we face now.

Three years ago, the case for global economic integration was clear and widely accepted. Yes, globalisation was alarming — in both its pace and reach — but the only rational response was to manage it.

Like many other business leaders, I failed to see the wave of anti-globalisation sentiment coming our way.

I have been struck over the past year by the slowness of the global business community’s response to the twin threats of populism and protectionism. This cannot continue. I see three principal priorities for action.
