三位科學家共享年諾貝爾物理學獎

The 2016 Nobel Prize in Physics is being shared by three scientists, the Royal Academy of Sciences announced last Tuesday.

瑞典皇家科學院於上週二宣佈，2016年諾貝爾物理學獎由三位科學家分享。

The Nobel Prize in Physics 2016 was divided, with one half awarded to David J. Thouless, the other half jointly to F. Duncan M. Haldane and J. Michael Kosterlitz "for theoretical discoveries of topological phase transitions and topological phases of matter."

2016年諾貝爾物理學獎被一分爲二，其中一半授予給了大衛·J·索利斯，另一半授予給了F·鄧肯·M·霍爾丹和J·邁克爾·科斯特利茲，以表彰他們在拓撲相變和拓撲領域的理論發現。

Through a telephone interview, Haldane said he was "very surprised" at the news, adding that he was glad that their discoveries found something many previously overlooked. He emphasized that a lot of work was still ongoing.

霍爾丹通過一則電話採訪表示，他對這一消息感到“十分驚喜”，並表示自己很高興他們的研究發現了一些很多人之前忽視過的東西。他還強調，大量的工作仍在進行當中。

"This year's laureates opened the door on an unknown world where matter can assume strange states," the Royal Academy of Sciences said in an official statement.

"They have used advanced mathematical methods to study unusual phases, or states, of matter such as superconductors, superfluids or thin magnetic films."

"Thanks to their pioneering work, the hunt is now on for new and exotic phases of matter. Many people are hopeful of future applications in both materials science and electronics."

Thouless is currently emeritus professor at the University of Washington. Haldane is professor of Physics at Princeton University, while Kosterlitz is professor of Physics at Brown University.

索利斯現在是華盛頓大學的榮譽教授。霍爾丹是普林斯頓大學物理學教授，而科斯特利茲則是布朗大學物理學教授。

This year's prize amount is 8 million Swedish krona ($0.93 million), with one half to Thouless and the other half to be shared between Haldane and Kosterlitz.

今年的獎金額爲800萬瑞典克朗（摺合93萬美元），其中一半授予給了索利斯，另一半由霍爾丹和科斯特利茲分享。
