手機靚號拍出225萬天價

A cellphone number that ends with five "eights" was offered for 2.25 million yuan ($325,000) at a court-organized online auction on Sunday.

8月16日，在法院組織的一場網絡拍賣會上，一部尾號爲5個“8”的手機號拍出了225萬元高價。

The phone number, which begins with "1890" and ends with five "eights", was issued by China Telecom. It was put up for auction on the Taobao e-commerce platform with a starting price of 2,000 yuan.

這部以“1890”開頭、尾號爲“88888”的中國電信手機號由北京市朝陽區人民法院委託淘寶電商平臺進行拍賣，起拍價爲2000元。

A total of 589 people participated in the auction, which was organized by Chaoyang District People's Court in Beijing. 5,051 bids were made, attracting the attention of nearly 70,000 netizens.

本次拍賣共589人蔘加，共經歷5051次出價，吸引近7萬網友圍觀。

Starting 10 am Saturday, the auction was estimated to end 24 hours later.

拍賣自8月15日10時開始，原本預計24小時後結束。

But as people continued to make bids, the deal was not sealed until 11:23 am Sunday, when the lucky phone number fetched a staggering 2.25 million yuan.

但是由於不斷有人出價，拍賣延時，直至8月16日11時23分，這個靚號最終以225萬元的驚人價格落槌成交。

The figure "8", whose pronunciation resembles "fa" in Mandarin which means fortune, is a lucky number in Chinese culture.

在中國文化中，數字“8”是一個幸運數字，因爲它的發音類似於漢語中的“發”，也就是“發財”的意思。
