They tell us that the earth travels over 1000 miles a minute on its journey around the sun. The sun is really a star. It's much bigger than the earth, and it's very hot. Some people have been to the moon, but no one can ever go to the sun. It's far too hot for people to live anywhere near it. The sun is 300,000 times heavier than the earth, and more than 1 million times larger.

"No, I didn't mean that," said the old man. "I meant that you would soon get used to being poor and having no friends."

It might be a game of some kind —football, hockey, golf or tennis., or it might be mountaineering . Those who have a passion for climbing high and difficult mountains are often looked upon with astonishment. Why are men and women willing to suffer cold and hardship , and to take risks on high mountains ? This astonishment it probably caused by the difference between mountaineering and other forms of activity to which men give their leisure. If we compare mountaineering and other more familiar sports, we might think that one big difference is that mountaineering is not a “team sport”. We should be mistaken in this . There are , it is true , no “matcher” between “ teams” of climbers , however, when climbers are on a rock face linked by a rope on which their lives may depend , there is obviously teamwork .
